After the showdown, the highest-ranking hand wins the game. Occasionally, the winnings are divided between several different players. This is known as a side pot.
In some variations of poker, a player can bluff their way to victory. A bluff is when a player makes a bet, but the other players do not call it. Alternatively, the player may choose to check, and the other players may decide to call the check. In some games, the player who checks is said to stay in.
